IT Service Management Forum USA (itSMF USA), the nation's leading association focused on improving the practice of IT Service Management (ITSM), emphasized the importance of ITIL v3 and other ITSM best practices at itSMF USA Fusion ‘08, the organization's eighth annual conference and expo.

Held this week at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the itSMF USA annual conference is the largest gathering of ITSM professionals in the world. This year's event focused on the theme of uniting the world of ITSM, and provided attendees with thought-provoking content on critical IT industry topics, including the most important events in the field of ITSM: last year's release of ITIL v3, and the rapid growth of the ITSM profession.

During the conference, more than 100 speakers presented myriad sessions on key insights in ITSM best practices, innovative new strategies, and real-world results. Along with the expert insight on ITIL v3, the ten conference tracks included topics such as the expansion of service management well beyond the traditional boundaries of IT and managing the change required for transitioning to ITSM practice.

ITIL v3 Chief Architect, Sharon Taylor, closed the eighth annual conference with a look at the issues and implications of these new best practices, one year after the release. During her talk, she provided an overview of the transition from ITIL v2 to v3. She also provided practical advice and guidance as well as ten lessons learned from the transition.

In addition, conference attendees benefited from multiple opportunities to incorporate hands-on training into their conference experience. On top of a variety of interactive workshops, itSMF USA Fusion 08 included the Simulation Showcase Event at which attendees assumed the roles of participants and observers to gain understanding and insight into the uses of simulations in IT. Many conference-goers will also participate in the post-conference training and certification classes.

The organization also announced initial plans for itSMF USA Fusion 09. In 2009, itSMF USA Fusion will transform beyond the scope of simply a conference and expo to an annual convention slated to take place at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas, Texas, running Sept. 20 through Sept. 23, 2009. The theme "Bigger in Texas" pertains not only to the content of the ninth annual event, which in 2009 will encompass professional education, exhibits, keynotes and networking, but also the fact that by moving it to a venue as large as the Gaylord, all events and housing will be held under one roof.

In addition, the pricing structure for next year's event has changed from previous years as well. Convention organizers are already accepting registrations for 2009, and anyone who registers by Nov. 30, 2008 will receive $500 off their registration fee for next year's convention.
